urgent call for booking forms for courses starting before Christmas

We have two courses commencing before Christmas (see below), and would welcome completed application forms from participants who have close to the 50 hours 'bat contact time' pre-requisite. Don't worry if you havent had your training diary signed-off yet - we know how busy you all are at this time of year. Let us have your application so we can provisionally book places on both courses. Email Pat, or call the Wildwood Ecology office on 029 2002 2320 (10.30am-1pm best).

BLTC courses are composed of two compulsory residential training weeks. The next two, both with some spaces left, are:
BLTC 10 12-16 Dec 2011 N Wales & 7-11 May 2012 Bristol
BLTC 11 28 Oct-2 Nov 2011 Glos & 23-27 July 12 Bristol

Applications for these should be sent to use before the end of September, and sooner if possible as places fillup quickly!

Due to considerable demand, we have added a new set of course dates alongside BLTC 10. this will be renumbered to be the new BLTC 11, with 12, 13 etc to follow.

At this stage places on this course will be offered to those already in the aplication process, but please continue to send requests for information and booking information to Pat!

Now taking bookings for BLTC 10 starting December 2011

We are pleased to have filled courses 8 and 9, although can have a couple of names 'on stand-by' for BLTC 9. We regret that course fees will have to increase a small amount to cover VAT and increased venue charges. New prices will take effect from BLTC 10. Well, course bookings have flown in over the past few weeks with courses upto August 2011 now fully subscribed.
Some places still remain on BLTC 10 which starts in December 2011 and concludes May 2012.

We have no places left on BLTC courses in 2010, but bookings are now been taken for BLTC 8 and 9 starting in 2011. Contact Pat for dates and details.
Don't forget that applicants need relevant experience which needs to be signed for by a licensed batworker. We recommend as much experience accompanying other licensed people as possible. Keep a log of your experience and get it signed at the time to save chasing signatures later!

BLTC 7 almost full!

We are now down to just one remaining place for BLTC 7 starting in December 2010. But don't worry because we have almost finalised our training dates for 2011 and 2012. This will include new BLTC courses and several new venues, including new centres in Gloucestershire and Dorset.

Just a quick post to conmfirm that BLTC 5 (Feb/Jun) and 6 (Mar/Aug) are now fully booked. We are able to take expressions of interest for BLTC 7 Starting in December 2010, and can add a few names in reserve in case a place becomes available at short notice. Please email for more info.

The next course (BLTC 7) starts in December 2010. We will issue full course dates once a part two venue has been arranged in 2011.

Happy New Year!

Christmas is over, and we have rapidly filled all eight places for BLTC 5 (Feb & June) so only reserve places now available. However, there are still several places remaining for BLTC 6, starting in March, for those meeting the pre-requisite experience levels.

This will be the last planned course running before next winter as we will spend the summer running 'part two' courses for BLTC's 4, 5 & 6. BLTC 7 will then start on the revised date of 6-10 December 2010 (part 2 date to be confirmed shortly).

BLTC 4 begins in north Wales 13-17th December (part 2 in South Wales 23-27 May 2010), and we still have ONE PLACE LEFT!
Anyone with at least 30 hours of bat work experience should apply quickly be email to pat at battraining.co.uk (replace at with @). This is your last chance to complete a BLTC programme before winter 2010.
Not ready yet? we still have places on all courses running next year satrting with BLTC 5 in February.

New Course Dates

Finally we are able to publish new course dates for BLTC. Apologies for the delay, and thanks for your patience. A busy bat season, 9 weeks without broadband (Thanks BT), and a house move have all contributed to the delay!

We have now completed BLTC 1 & 2, with BLTC 3 and an in-house course for Mott Macdonald are both part way through.

Each course runs in two parts - both of which must be attended as a pair.

Dates for 2009-10

BLTC 4. 13-17 December 2009 (N. Wales) and 23-27 May 2010 (S.Wales)

BLTC 5. 25-28 February 2010 (N.Wales, 3 nights only) and 13-17 June (Bristol)

BLTC 6. 7-11 March (N.Wales) and 8-12 August (Bristol)

BLTC 7. 21-25 November and TBC.

BLTC fully booked, but new course dates being investigated for 2009-10!

The last few places on the existing scheduled course programme for 2009 have now been booked, although we can accept one or two names in reserve in the unlikely event of cancellations.

However, we are making enquiries to run a further programme with field course dates in December 2009 and May 2010. Please email expressions of interest and check the blog for updates!

Bat Licence Training Course

Welcome to the Blog site for the Bat Licence Training Course for professional ecologists. Co-written and presented by Dr Sandie Sowler and Richard Crompton, the course is run by Wildwood Ecology Limited.

This course has been prepared to address the difficulty many professional ecologists have obtaining licence training through local bat groups, many of whom are unable or unwilling to offer training to those intending to use their bat licences for commercial purposes.

The training is based on two key elements; a training diary or log of experience, and two residential field courses - one during the colder months of the year and one during the bats' active season. Sign-off for a licence is at the strict discretion of the trainers (both of whom hold training licences for Natural England and the Countryside Counci for Wales), and follows an assessment and a review of training diaries.
